The Salty Farmer has been awarded USDA funding through Western SARE to prove the application of a large volume BUPSY as a suitable oyster nursery for commercial adoption.

This field-based research will take place in three distinct growing areas in Washington State: Willapa Bay, Skagit River delta / Skagit Bay, Oakland Bay. The collaborating farms are linked below.

The images below are of seed grown in these large 50L bottles in 2024. Pacific Oysters were grown from 2mm t0 6mm+ in just three weeks. This trial study laid the ground for grant funded research in 2025.
